Bon voyage package!

Well this is the last package I sent my boy in the MTC (Missionary Training Center). When my daughter left on her mission to the Philippines I sent her a going away package as well. So here is how I went about these package.

When you are a missionary you have rules that you are supposed to live by, one of them is no tv, or listening to music with earphones, so when you are on a plane for a long period of time you have the choice to sleep, eat, talk, or read. So I always make sure to send some reading material. Of course it is missionary approved. Yes, there are also guidelines on what missionaries can read. I think the General Conference Ensign is a must. Oh, and letters from home. You know the ones where you pour your heart out or give them all that advice, the advice that you have been trying to tell them and you know they are only half listening, but now they are fresh out of the MTC and they hear you differently. All that stuff you tried to tell them, well they actually care a little bit more and even want to hear it. A few other things that can come in handy are travel size medications as well as some of their favorite snacks. I know for my daughter it was her first time on an airplane and so I loaded her up with any and every medication I could possibly think she might need.

I obviously took two different approaches to these packages. I found myself singing the song "I'm Leaving On A Jet Plane" by Peter Paul & Mary when I put together my daughter's package and with my son it was "Russia or Bust!" The thing I love about this is that it can be whatever you want it to be. But I do understand that sometimes it is nice to see that someone already came up with a direction for you to go.

To say that I LOVE washi tape would be an understatement. I really, really, really LOVE washi tape. Like Pee-wee's Playhouse kind of love it, you know I love it so much that I want to marry it! (Yes, I still think that is funny. No shame here) What I am trying to say is that if you don't have any get some now. It makes everything cute with little effort. Who doesn't love that?

Because I'm a little crazy I like to do something with the sides of all my packages. Do people care? No, not everyone. Do I care? YES!! It makes me happy and so I do it. I have a lot of scrapbook paper and wrapping paper that I use, and honestly anything is fair game in my opinion. It's from you so you can do whatever you feel like ;)

On this package for my daughter I found an image of a jet plane and just traced it on white paper and then cut it out (I am one of those weird people who still cuts things out by hand because I like it) and then start writing.

So there you have it. Really there isn't much to it, but it makes the person on the receiving end of things very happy and well there is nothing better than that!

Sweet 16 Candy Poster!

What do you do for one of your cute young women who is turning 16 years old? A candy poster with advice on dating of course! And I bet if you asked them what they wanted they would tell you that, even before a car ;)

So here is what I came up with, and I just want to state that I LOVE Pinterest just as much as the next guy, or gal, but there is still something awesome about creating something with your own heart and mind. Even if you are using the "cheesy" part of one of those. I like to remind myself every once in a while that I can still create something with just the idea in my head. It makes me happy!

All you need is a poster board, markers, candy of your choice and a little "cheese" and you are set!

And so it begins....

Here we go, another blog to try and keep up on. However this blog will be the first one that I have done that isn't private. So here we go! My hope is that there may be someone, even if it literally is just one, who gets inspired or simply finds an idea on here that is useful for them then I have accomplished my goal!

I am the mother of four, a wife, a librarian, and currently a young women president among other things, and the truth is I find myself in awe at the talent and creativity of so many out there. I often wonder how do they find the time, but really I am just grateful that they do! I know that if someone could get inside my head for just a minute it would be exhausting! I have so many ideas and projects that are just waiting to happen, and most of those projects have to be scaled down because of one thing or another, time, budget, lack of know how....you get the idea. But in my older age, which despite what my husband may think is not that old, I have embraced my new approach at projects and well many things in my life for that matter, as semi-homemade! Yep, it works and I am just fine with it. Like I mentioned before there are so many talented people willing to share so why not embrace it and be grateful for it. You can always add your own personal touch and make it yours, make it unique!

So this blog will serve as a place where I can put some of my ideas/projects and maybe help a girl or two out!
